# 9 Blogs & Newsletters Every Tech Freelancer Should Read

    ·   4 minute read

Podcasts are great for your commute. But when you need to think something through, like how to price a project, how to position yourself or whether to go independent at all, nothing beats a well-written post.

The problem: much of the classic freelancing writing has gone quiet, and a lot of what's left is written for creatives rather than engineers. So we looked for writers who are still publishing and who actually do independent tech or consulting work themselves.

## How we picked them

- **Still publishing.** Every blog or newsletter has a new post from the last six months (checked in September 2026).
- **Written by practitioners.** Each writer has run their own consulting practice or independent business.
- **Honest numbers.** Most writers don't publish subscriber counts, so we show their LinkedIn followers (checked in September 2026), how often they publish and public subscriber numbers where available.

## At a glance

| # | Writer | Blog / newsletter | Best for | LinkedIn followers |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| 1 | Yaroslav Tkachenko | The Independent Engineer | Going independent as a software engineer | 4,173 |
| 2 | Harry Roberts | CSS Wizardry | Running a technical consultancy | 3,292 |
| 3 | Hamel Husain | hamel.dev | AI engineering from an AI consultant | 33,975 |
| 4 | Chris Ferdinandi | Go Make Things | Life as a self-employed developer | 1,354 |
| 5 | Blair Enns | Win Without Pitching | Selling and pricing expertise | 24,247 |

Subscribe by email or RSS instead of relying on social feeds. The best posts on this list are long, and they're worth reading when you have ten quiet minutes, not while scrolling.
